As I arrived late it was patently obvious that this was going to be a sell out gig. Which isn’t too surprising as you won’t get to see PAPA ROACH outside of the festival circuit very often. Opening up for nu-metal stalwarts PAPA ROACH are DEAR SUPERSTAR, who as it happens, were in full swing trying to convert some of the PAPA ROACH faithful. Unfortunately for them the crowds response was a bit lackluster, possibly conserving their energy for the mosh pit later? Their brand of Emo influenced 80′s rock is not for everyone! It can get a bit irritating if subjected to it for too long but a short and sweet 30 minute set was about right for the upcoming band. On closer inspection by coincidence or design their musical style is complemented almost exactly by their look, the standard fair tat’s and t-shirts coupled with goth-lite eye liner and Emo hair so in this case you can judge a book by its cover. They’ve got a few catchy songs in the set and singer Micky Satiar puts his all into the performance. With more of a back catalogue to go at and dropping the Emo thing they’d be alot more likeable, no one likes Emo’s that’s why they self harm.

Next up were FILTER, and from the roar from the crowd as they stepped on stage it seems their are a few fans in tonight. They opened their set with ‘Welcome to the Fold’, with vocalist Richard Patrick in full swagger they ripped through the set which seemed to comprise mainly of the first two albums Short Bus and Title of Record. The industrial tinged rock while infectious did get repetitive as many of the songs have a very similar feel. Although you could never write FILTER off as a one trip pony either (see what I did their!) as the spaced out ‘Trip Like I Do’ is a work of genius.

Next up is the self pitying pop rock that is PAPA ROACH. Opening with the fast and furious ‘Change or Die’ it wasn’t long before the first mosh pit of the night opened up the floor. Then it was time for some nu-metal nostalgia in the form of ‘Broken Home’. Singer Jacody Shaddix was on good form and loving the crowd singing every note of ‘To Be Loved’. As a live band I don’t think you can get much better than PAPA ROACH when their on form. If you’re not already aware it doesn’t matter how good PAPA ROACH were on this night the only thing that will be remembered about this show was that someone did a shit in the crowd. I’ve seen people piss in a cup or even on the floor in a packed venue, but I never thought someone would have the vision or more likely lack of bowel control to shit on the floor, mosh shit!
