Keele University could be considered to being rather a small venue for one of the best breakthrough bands in the last couple of years, but in all honesty ENTER SHIKARI could play your garden shed and still make the night go down in history.

There must be something in the water in Stoke which just forces THE SUBWAYS to constantly keep coming back for more, twice they have played at The Sugarmill in Hanley and last night was their debut at the slightly larger venue of Keele University ballroom. Straight from the start it seemed that THE SUBWAYS were out to prove something.

Surprisingly opening up tonight were BRITNY FOX and just about recognisable from the (now) hilarious cover of their eponymous 1988 debut record is the only band member left from those days, bass guitarist Billy Childs.

Arriving in Sheffield for the package tour badged as 'Hell On Earth', I was clear about one thing, this was going to be metalcore fans dream with band after band of that genre hitting the stage for what looked an impressive lineup on paper. Unfortunately bad traffic struck, and by the time we arrived at the venue, ALL SHALL PERISH were on stage and already half way through their set.

Upon entering the venue, I arrived just in time for the start of GOJIRA's set. I was looking forward to getting a glimpse of SONIC SYNDICATE and their delicious bass player Karin Axelsson - but the huge queues outside the venue meant that I missed their entire set. Oh well, I'll have to wait until the next time for such delights.

Opening proceedings tonight were young Nottingham rockers NEW GENERATION SUPERSTARS. This is a band who play a raw, energetic brand of rock 'n' roll, and judging by the amount of people who rushed down the front to watch their set, they've certainly built up quite a following.
