I reckon Die Apokalyptischen Reiter deserved more praise than the 3.5/5 score you gave their performance. If their precision-engineered yet atmospheric thrash didn't peak your interest, the pairing of a comedy gimp keyboardist with a barefoot front-man whose grin would be difficult to remove with an angle grinder is surely worth a mention. I don't think the girl who was invited on stage to mosh with the band for Seemann will forget her lucky escape from the gimp's clutches any time soon either. The sight of her crowd-surfing in an inflatable dinghy had me in stitches - as did the rest of their half-hour set.

Other highlights of the festival for me were Sabaton, Beholder, Blind Guardian, Turisas, Pythia, Saxon, Anathema and Europe. Different to your picks, but then that was the great thing about this year's Bloodstock: it had something to suit every taste - as long as your taste was for metal!
