If you’re still living with your parents, whatever you do, don’t leave this DVD on show in your bedroom, especially not next to a box of Kleenex. Believe me, if an unsuspecting mother sees the cover of this, she won’t think it’s a live concert by a rock band. However, that’s exactly what it is as NASHVILLE PUSSY perform their sparkling fusion of southern rock and old school punk to a rabid, up-for-it Hollywood audience.
As live shows go, this is as good as a DVD gets. The editing is spot on, with enough camera angles to keep you happy, especially those focussing on guitarist Ruyter Sut’s clevage (you may need that box of Kleenex after all), and without too many cuts, this footage won’t send you dizzy. The sound is crisp and clear, which helps in capturing the raw energy of such a rocking band, meaning that you can go a long way towards transferring such energy to your front room.
Should their ever be a remake of the ‘The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams’, Jack Daniels swigging frontman Blaine Cartwright would have to be a good contender for the leading role. Here, his roaring vocals tear through crackerjack songs such as ‘Hell Ain’t What It Used to Be’, ‘Shes Meaner Than My Momma’ and an awesome cover of the Ike/Tina Turner song ‘NutBush City Limits’. Ruyter Suys’ lead guitar work is almost as impressive as her tits, and she doesn’t half give it some – she’s almost the definition of an authentic rock chick.
The plentyful bunch of bonus material is also worth a watch, and keep an eye out for Lemmy who makes a guest appearance interviewing the band. Overall, this DVD is a top notch recording of a great live band doing what they do best. If you’re a NASHVILLE PUSSY fan, then this visual feast is an absolute must – just make sure you’ve got plenty of whiskey at the ready, and crank the volume up to 11. If you neighbours complain, blame me – because like NASHVILLE PUSSY, I don’t give a f***!
