Wickerman Festival – Hot Picks

Often dubbed the “Misfit of Scottish Festivals” the Wickerman is once again set to sizzle on the 25th & 26th July. The Solway Coasts most warmly regarded event has finalised its musical line-up and on-site entertainment. Artistic Director Sid Ambrose has provided a Hot Picks A-Z guide for the weekend of cult celebration.

A) Animalia – The dress up theme for 2008. Expect lots of furry suits and animal masks.
B) Bovine – A robotic water powered “Rave Cow” will entertain the kids.
C) Children – Almost 4,000 under 12’s attended in 2007. The Wickerman expects more kids for this year.
D) DubPistols – A ska hip hop crossover becoming very popular on the festival circuit.
(E) Eclectic – With over 220 performers covering dance, electronic, pop, reggae, ska and acoustic  to name but a few, eclectic is what the Wickerman is all about.
F) Fire – Don’t miss the spectacular torching of the giant Wickerman Saturday midnight.
G) Golf – Punk rock golf courtesy of the Secret Golf Society winners of the” Wickerman challenge” can take part in a further competition offering a major prize.
H) Hacienda – Re-live those glorious madchester days with Bez, Hooky and the Hacienda Tour.
I) Independent – No commercial global organisation behind the Wickerman. The event is completely hand chewed.
J) Jester – A sinister hand carved jester will join the other freaky carvings around the site.
K) KT Tunstall – Our prime performer KT Tunstall loves the Wickerman and can’t wait to play.
L) Louis Osbourne – A man from a famous musical family will entertain us in the Bhuta Breaks and Beats zone.
M) Mohican – A world record attempt will see a herd of Mohicans gathered at the foot of the Wickerman.
N) Numan – Stage legend Gary Numan will entertain the masses with his emotive electronic on Friday night.
O) Oratory – The “Ingrid Pitt” spoken word stage will feature some of the finest poetic talent from around the British Isles.
P)  Punk- A tsunami of punk and ska will flood the Capitol scooter tent.
Q) Quinine – With a sea breeze caressing the site there is no need for any anti-midge or mosquito medication.
R) Relax – Let the Wicker team do all the work, simply turn up and chill out.
S) Skiddle.com – Preston based promoters who will provide mutant frequencies in the Skiddle showcase arena dome.
T) The North West – Over 40% of Wickerman ticket sales come from Manchester and the North West making this “Scottish Festival” a firm favourite South of the Border.
U) Undulate – Rolling Galloway hills make the festival site second to none in terms of scenic beauty.
V) Votes – 2007 saw the Wickerman voted as the “Best Grass Roots Festival” in a national poll.
W) Willow – The star shaped woodland in the main arena is made from willow and is home to the resident Wickerman wood-carver.
X) X-Press 2 – A treat for dance fans in the Skiddle.com Showcase Arena.
Y) Young – Or old, the Wickerman attracts one of the most diverse crowds of any festival.
Z) Zub Zub – One of the more interesting acts appearing in the psychedelic Votan Lounge.

The Wickerman Festival takes place at East Kirkcarswell Farm, near Kirkcudbright, South West Scotland on the 25th & 26th July.

Tickets are priced at £75 weekend ticket and £50 Saturday only ticket with children 12 and under admitted free. Tickets include camping & parking.

    My younger cousin keeps talking about the festival and his costume. I had no idea what he was talking about so I nodded my head pretending I know just because I’m older. Then I went to the computer, Googled it and ended up here. Thanks for the info man.
