This is the third single to be released from their debut album ‘Rise’ and I have to say, this single is the first that I have heard from THE ANSWER and I was duly impressed. The singer sounds like he knows how to rock. I can only imagine what they are like live but if they sound anywhere near like they do on the single, it should be a rocking gig.
The single ‘Be What You Want’ is bold and brassy but not over the top in an anthemic kind of way. Definitely a good song to have blasting from your car stereo whilst driving to work – it sets up your day and you cant help humming the tune – just ask my work colleagues who are now sick to death of me singing it.
I am always a little sceptical of bands performing covers of classic songs and so when I saw that the b-side had AEROSMITH’s – ‘Sweet Emotion’ I was a little worried. However these guys do a kick ass version of the track and the singers voice is spot on.
‘Into the Gutter’ is an acoustic song that unfortunately for me does not make me want to play it again, I just think that the song is a little dull in this format and doesn’t really work for me. The album version is much better.
The fourth track on the CD is a Live radio session recording of album track ‘No Questions Asked’ that grabs your attention from the opening riff. I turned the volume up in the car and as I drove past people were covering their ears – it was that loud, I turned it up to eleven. Clever, and riffy with a good choice of lyrics and a great melody. I think that this release should help make THE ANSWER’s year a good one.
Buy the single and you have three out of four great tracks (In my opinion) and check them out when they play near you – I know I will.
