It’s been 2 years since American shock-rockers W.A.S.P. were last here in the UK. Their 2 UK tours of 2004 were a blazing success with many a sold out show on the schedule. Tonight was the first show of a small September UK tour and a decent sized Dudley JB’s crowd showed up to see it. The opening band tonight were four very, very hot young ladies by the name of MCQUEEN. Never have I seen a band with so much talent! – well there is GIRLS ALOUD I suppose! But seriously, the best thing of all about these lasses is the fact that they play damn right dirty rock ‘n roll and the dominant male JB’s crowd loved every minute.
After the treat that the eyes (and ears!) had just had, it was then time for the mighty W.A.S.P. to once again lay siege to the UK stage….hmmm….or was it? There was actually a 1 hour wait for the band to appear, during which time, the crowd understandably got more restless by the minute.
Finally, just before 10pm, the intro tape started and before you knew it, Blackie and the boys were belting out ‘On Your Knees’ and ‘Hate To Love Me’. It was the next song ‘L.O.V.E. Machine‘ that then set the crowd alight as Lawless was riding high on his legendary skeleton rider microphone stand.
One thing that was nice tonight is that finally, W.A.S.P. have incorporated some live backing vocals into their set. On recent tours they have used backing tapes for all backing vocals but tonight was a mix of the tapes and the voices of guitarist Doug Blair and bass player Mike Duda.
During the set, Lawless mentioned that W.A.S.P. will have a new album out by the end of the year, entitled ‘Damnation’. Surprisingly though, no tracks were debuted tonight to give the album a push. Also surprising was the fact that not a single track was played from either of W.A.S.P.’s most recent pair of albums, Neon God Parts 1 and 2. ‘Sleeping in the Fire’ and ‘The Idol’ slowed things down in the middle of the set, whereas ‘The Headless Children’ sparked the biggest bout of headbanging.
After the 9th song of the night ‘I Wanna Be Someboy’, to everybodys amazement, the lights went down. The encore of ‘Chainsaw Charlie’ and ‘Blind in Texas’ then closed the show, but as good as W.A.S.P were, this ending was all to premature. The length of the set was a major disappointment and everyone in the room felt short changed. Where was ‘Animal’? Where was ‘Hellion’? Even if these two songs were added, the set would still have only been the length of an average afternoon festival set.
In summary, yes, W.A.S.P. can still play, and Blackie Lawless is still the crazy metalhead he always has been. However, a set short of 1 hour and only containing 11 songs is simply not value for money and this is a fundamental error as UK audiences expect a hell of a lot more. You can be sure that anyone who forked out £18.50 tonight to stand around waiting for an hour for a set shorter than an hour, will not make the same mistake again when W.A.S.P. return to the UK for the album tour in 6 weeks time.
In a recent interview (February ‘06) when talking about this years touring plans, Lawless stated that “the tickets will cost no more than US$15 each at any show” and the sets will be at least 90 minutes because he is “tired of shitty bands charging $50 and playing less than an hour.” Well tonight, the tickets were roughly $40 and excluding the intro tape, the set was less than an hour. Enough said.

Let’s make some things clear;
WASP started 10 minutes earlier of what you have posted if that makes any difference anyway. The new album will be called Dominator, what you have written is wrong.
For your information the show lasts approx. an hour and something. Now, if you measuring entertainment by the duration, looking at your watch, then I would suggest to stick in your DVD and rock your world this way, and I hope it’s not copied. You should have been counting your stars really as a band like WASP still plays live, and especially in Dudley. Let’s see what it’s gonna happened in 20 years or so where all of those legendary bands won’t exist anymore the way they do now… Just my humble opinion…
Long Live.

Oh dear, that is a one apalling review, are you sure you were even at the gig.. Oh boy, where do i start:
1. the new album will be called ‘Dominator’ and will be released in October. next time try opening those ears of yours and listen. To relive that moment go and watch http://youtube.com/watch?v=V16kbD5I-4w
2. The show was actually 70mins long, yes thats 1hr and 10 mins to you.
3. Yes there was no Animal and when do they ever play a complete Hellion? Animal is a great anthem but the setlist was kickass as it was, stop bitching.
4. If the ticket is £18.50, that would be $35, not $40, what currency conversion did you use?!!? At the moment its 1.88068
5. People like you writing crap like this give bands a bad name, shame on you. Your best interview parts praised the crappy McQueen who were infact a crap and simple band, it just tells us what sort of music you really like.
W.A.S.P. FOR LIFE!

This review is spot on! I was totally pissed off after the gig I went to at Milton Keynes – and there the set WAS EVEN SHORTER!!!!!!! Not counting the intro, and band off stage between last song and encore – WASP were on stage for easily under an hour. Plus..how can a band not play their most famous song? …. what i will say is that I saw SAXON last year, who are even older than WASP – they were superb and played 23 (yes twenty three!) songs, in 2hours and 15 minutes. Thats fucking metal!!! I won’t be wasting any more money on WASP, sorry. Well said Baconmusic.

Painkller, how can you agree with his review when its mostly wrong.
and you say you were so pissed off with them, THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU GO TO MILTON KAYNES, this doesnt make any sense!
I hate faggot fans who go to a wasp gig and always have something bad to say, stay at home and listen to your fucking Saxon then.
wasp has been doing this for fucking years, its nothing new and you people bore the real fans with shit.
thats all there is to it.

its obvious that Painkller and James from bacon and eggs music are 2 fucken faggots who were sucking each others dicks during the gig and missed the WASP show.

Guys, as a fellow long-time WASP fan I would also like to defend the band and Blackie but really, this a reviewer’s opinion and you gotta respect his opinion. We all love WASP but just because someone doesn’t like some aspects of the show, eg. the somewhat short set-list that they actually have – compared to other acts it’s way too short! – that doesnt mean you can write all kind of crap about his/her review. There are some factual errors in the review sure but come on let people have their own opinion. Isn’t that what reviews are for ?… Anyway who cares – see u all on the tour!

Eric
there is absolutely nothing wrong with critisism if its based on actual events.
most of the shit he said was wrong, compeletely wrong, and then comes along another faggot and agrees with it.
its so sad.

Fedja, even if you’re talking about $35, thats more than double Blackie’s $15 promise, and even if they did play 70 minutes, thats 20 less than Blackies promise – so you don’t have a leg to stand on! (and yes I’ve seen that quote too on wikipedia)
My mate also went to this show and said he was very dissapointed, with 11 songs only played – and bloody too right. What a fucking rip off.
Manimal is obiouvsly some stupid 15 year old who loves WASP and Slipknot and therefore thinks that an hour set is good! Hilarious…a cock-sucking asshole thats what they call me!!!!
Still looking forward to Domination, or Dominator, whatever it is…
Painkiller – SAXON kick WASP’s ass man!

I agree with those saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion. and that everyone should behave
I was not at those gigs, but have been attending those in Norway so far. And even though they don’t play for 90 minutes. I’m still sweatty, tired in my arms and legs of all the jumping, screaming and waving my arms that if it was any longer i would have to take a break:-)
WASP was superb on stage and I had a good time. Even though i paid more than his “promise” I don’t think it was a ripoff. (The promise was probably only meant for US venues anyway!) Everything today is expensive and paying 20-25£ for tickets in Norway is money well spent!!
Rock rolls forever on and I’ll be there…

dude, yes i do have a leg to stand on. my comments are not blackies comments, all i did was correct the fucking retard who wrote this shitty review.
fair play if blackie said tix wont be more than $15, he must have been dreaming, we are in a a world where shit goes up every year without fair.
in 1997 i saw wasp on the kill fuck die tour for £5, yes £5 which is approx $9.
the truth is wherever they play, most of the ticket price doesnt even go to wasp, they only get a very small cut, they make most their money on merchandise, like any other band trying to make ends meet.
what the fuck would you fuckers say if you went to see maiden or metallica who charge £40 – £90 per fucking ticket, you should be talking shit about them, no matter how big they are.
and as for saxon playing 23 songs, thats just sad, i think the only reason is cos they dont have any good fucking songs, so they play 23 hopeing the everyone in the crowd will like at least one. fucking saxon.
Manimal said on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, 13:43
Hey Odin stop bitchin dude $35 is a fucken bargain to see WASP, you dontlike it then go see Saxon 23 song gig, you’ll be lucky if they have one good song.
Shitknot? who the fuck is that?
Eric said on Friday, September 22, 2006, 9:36
“and then comes along another faggot and agrees with it”… Nice on Fedja. I actually expected better from u. Bitching about fellow WASP fans just because they have a slightly different opinion than urself – class-act, really. What is sad is the deterioration of WASP fans over the years…it used to be a good bunch of people and now it seems it’s all about badmouthing each other.

GREAT show but still a very short set I mean come on the fucker is almost 60… Fucker is almost dust.. LETS see your grandpa do better
Fedja said on Saturday, September 23, 2006, 12:22
Eric, dude, fuck you!
If you see that as bitching then geta fucking life. Peopl elike you do my fucking head in.
I was correcting, not fucking bitching. If he just said setlist was shot i wouldnt have said anything but he somehow took away 15 mins of the fucking show and rest of the show is mostly a fake crap review.
so fuck you, and fuck yoiu again, fake ass wasp fans, go listen to your fucking saxon!
